The first meeting of the Global Forum on Migration and Development in Brussels in July 2007 is organized, at the initiative of Mr. Armand De Decker, Minister of Development Cooperation, under the responsibility of the Belgian government, in consultation with Mr. Peter Sutherland, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for International Migration and Development

The Belgian council of Ministers has decided to entrust the organization of the Forum to Mrs. Régine De Clercq, Ambassador for Migration and Asylum policy of the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation. An international task force has been set up for the purpose of the organization of the Global Forum on Migration and Development.

The Directorate-General for Development Cooperation (DGDC) deals with the various aspects of Belgian development cooperation. The DGDC reprots directly to the Federal Minister of Development.

The organization of the civil society day falls under the responsibility of the King Baudouin Foundation, at the request of the Belgian government. This foundation supports projects and citizens with a commitment to build a better society. The Foundation looks for sustainable ways of bringing about justice, democracy and respect for diversity. The King Baudouin Foundation is independent and pluralistic.
