The marketplace is organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The marketplace is to be reached at UNDESA via the link mentioned below:
The marketplace will be a side-event during the first meeting of the Global Forum on Migration and Development and involves providing locations (that is tables) for actors in the market to meet and conduct transactions.
For ease of description, two types of actors will be considered: (1) owners and (2) visitors. Owners will be the initiators of transactions and will "own" a table and a time slot where they will conduct meetings with visitors. There will be four tables for each of the six time slots listed below:
10 July 2007
• 15:00 pm to 16:00 pm
• 16:00 pm to 17:00 pm
• 17:00 pm to 18:00 pm
11 July 2007
• 10:00 am to 11:00 am
• 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
• 12:00 pm to 13:00 pm
Owners will be representatives of Member States.
A web-based application is being developed to allow the posting of brief descriptions of the "services" that owners require (services include requests for assistance for capacity building).
Only one table and time slot will be allocated by owner and in the virtual world a distinct chat room will be allocated to each owner.
Once all the entries by owners have been posted, the website will be opened to visitors who will be able to chat with the owners of their choice so that they both can assess if their interests match.
On the basis of those interactions, owners will decide which visitors they wish to meet personally at the time of the Forum and a schedule of side meetings will be established and posted on the website.
